Chair Yoga for Seniors

chair yoga.jpg

In a fun and relaxed way, come and experience a shift; get the tools you need to service senior yogis, whether they are fit or frail. Warren will lead you through a couple of yoga sequences with all of the poses modified for chair yoga and provide you with explanations as how the sequences have evolved over time. Participants will develop their own sequences and topics covered within the course will include:

1. Warm up, cool down and Shavasana for seniors
2. Appropriate intensity levels, modifications, variations and alternate poses.
3. Modifying yoga poses for the chair class and sequencing
4. Creating your own sequence and modifying or changing it on the fly
5. Invitational language, putting them at ease and offering “outs”
6. Setting the environment for the class
7. Insurance, Keep On Moving Designation, CPR and First Aid
8. Screening, Participant Readiness Questionnaires and waivers
9. Emergency planning

Also, we will spend time breaking into smaller groups, taking turns leading other participants through your sequence(s) while they have hindrances such as ear plugs, blindfolds or wrist/ankle weights.
This course counts for 12 contact hours with respect to Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Credits

Early bird registration is $95 till February 23rd and $115 till March 9th and the regular price is $140. While anyone is welcome to take this workshop, it is expected that one has either the 200hr yoga teacher training under their belt or another fitness designation that would allow you to teach a general fitness class in conjunction with a good knowledge of yoga.
